An Ancient Underground Cathedral
Photography, nature and travel are best friends. Adventure and discovery are mine.
A dear friend and I, when she lived in Los Angeles, would go on mini spontaneous adventures together. Sunrise concerts at the Forever Cemetery, lazy days spent in Malibu, roof top 4th of July parties, sharing in enriching conversations well into the evening… nothing too out of the norm for young people living in the big city but they were our little adventures none the less. “Next time you are here,” I said, “we are going to visit this lava tube in the Mojave.” “Claustrophobia be damned,” she said, “I’m in!” Cut to a few months later… “I’m coming out! Lets go to the Mojave!” “OK,” I said. “Yeah!!!” A drive out, a nights stay in a creepy casino, an off roading adventure in a tiny economy car and we arrived to a valley of ancient volcanoes and lava filled rivers as old as 7 million years. We found the lave tube. It was ominous but in its depths I felt at home. Natures cathedrals are the most impactful, the most impressive.
